The Wii was a home console released by Nintendo in 2006. It was a successor to the GameCube, and included backwards compatibility with GameCube games on earlier models of the system. The main selling point of the console was the motion controls built in to the Wii Remote. It is also the first Nintendo console to include internet functionality built-in, as well as a digital storefront for games called the Wii Shop Channel. Later in the system's life, it received a revised model called the Wii Mini, which lacked internet features and backwards compatibility. It was succeeded by the Wii U.
Games
There were three games on the system which referenced Balloon Fight games, though only one Balloon Fight game was released for the system, being a Virtual Console re-release of the NES game. The following games for the system included references or cameos:
- WarioWare: Smooth Moves (December 2nd, 2006) - This game included a microgame which was a 3D reimagining of Balloon Trip from the NES game, as well as a larger endless mini game version.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl (January 31st, 2008) - The Balloon Fish appears in the Summit stage, as well as a song based on the Balloon Trip and Bonus Stage theme.
- Jam with the Band: Live Channel (June 26, 2008) - Can connect with Jam with the Band or Daigasso! Band Brothers DX on the Nintendo DS.
- WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase (April 29th, 2009) - The mode for listening to music is themed around Balloon Fight, even including a mode where you need to fly to collect the notes.
